Day 15 - Favorite Fight
‘I mean I’m not blind, I see what you going through with this whole deal, me going away and all that. But you’re gonna be ok.
‘Hm you think so.’‘Yeah, you’ll keep huntin’, y’know, you live your life. Your stronger than me, you are(Sam makes a noise of disbelief) you are… you’ll get over it. But I want you to know I’m sorry, I sorry for… putting you through all this, I am.
‘You know what Dean? Go screw yourself.’‘What?’
‘I don’t want an apology from you - and by the way, I’m a big boy now, I can take care of myself.’
‘Oh, well, excuse me.’
‘So will you please stop worrying about me, I mean that’s the whole problem in the first place. I don’t want you to worry about me, Dean, I want you to worry about you. I want you to give a crap that your dying! …So that’s it? Nothing else to say for you?’After a minute of not saying anything…
‘I think I’ll play craps.
There are a million fights, I mean really, they argue and fight each other every episode just about, but this one always gets to me. It’s the only one I could ever label a ‘favorite’ because it’s ridiculously annoying and also stupidly endearing in a weird way.
Every time I watch this episode I am convinced that were they not in the Impala Sam would’ve be completely tempted to sock Dean.
Dean just gave him this huge speech about how Sam is stronger than him, how he’ll get over his death, live his life, keep hunting, and he seems to really believe it, and then Sam snaps. It’s fantastic, because I think season three we see so much of Sam’s love for Dean outwardly shown and this is just one more example.
Dean doesn’t understand the idea that Sam needs him around just as much as he needs Sam, and it never ceases to infuriate me beyond belief, but it’s so Dean that, yeah, on some weird level it’s also endearing.
This fight gets lost along the way, and in retrospect doesn’t seem like a huge one, but it’s the way it happens, the reason it does, and how Dean, like usual, makes a comment or turns up the radio when he doesn’t want to comment.
